Director of Product Engineering

Role Overview

Cannolai is seeking a strategic, customer-centric product leader who can drive product vision, influence customer-facing success, and ensure smooth end-to-end delivery of the Cannolai AMS platform. This role aligns Product Ownership with a portion of sales Engineering, ensuring that what we build and sell are fully aligned. You will operate as the connective tissue between Product, Engineering, and Sales teams—translating market needs into actionable requirements and delivering measurable value to customers.

Key Responsibilities

Product Ownership

  • Own and communicate the product vision, roadmap, and priorities to the development team.
  • Define clear user stories and acceptance criteria, ensuring a ready backlog aligned with business goals.
  • Coordinate release planning, sprint reviews, and retrospectives with engineering and QA.
  • Ensure features are developed, tested, and deployed to spec, on time, and with measurable value.
  • Review and accept deliverables from development and QA teams; act as the final product gatekeeper before release.
  • Monitor product performance and adoption metrics to inform roadmap adjustments and feature iteration.
  • Translate complex business and operational workflows into precise, implementable product specifications.
  • Define and maintain data models, status lifecycles, configuration rules, and automation logic across modules.
  • Drive consistency in UX patterns, system behavior, and configuration architecture across the platform.
  • Identify and resolve gaps between documented requirements and actual system behavior during QA and UAT cycles.
  • Establish and maintain a product documentation standard covering specs, data dictionaries, workflow diagrams, and release notes.

Sales Engineering

  • Partner with Sales to design and maintain demo environments that reflect real-world use cases and product depth.
  • Capture prospect and client feedback and translate it into prioritized, actionable product requirements.
  • Influence roadmap decisions using win/loss patterns, competitive signals, and implementation realities.
  • Support Sales in live demos as needed.
  • Collect, prioritize, and communicate feature requests from sales, prospects, and partners to product leadership and engineering.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Proven experience in product ownership, business analysis, solutions consulting, or implementation strategy in a SaaS or enterprise platform environment.
  • Experience working directly with development teams in an agile environment.
  • Ability to translate business needs into technical requirements and communicate effectively with both engineers and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills; comfortable demoing technology and discussing customer pain points.
  • Experience collaborating closely with sales and customer success teams.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with AMS/ERP systems, member-based organizations, or SaaS enterprise platforms.
  • Background in pre-sales engineering, solutions consulting, technical account management, or implementation consulting.
  • Experience with Jira or similar agile toolsets.
